This itinerary takes you deep into the heart of the Maasai Mara, Kenya’s most famous reserve. Each day offers new wildlife encounters — from prides of lions and herds of elephants to giraffes silhouetted against the horizon. With your own vehicle and guide, you’ll have the flexibility to explore at your own pace and see the best of the Mara.
From Nairobi to the Savannah
Nairobi: Your safari begins in Kenya’s vibrant capital. Meet your driver/guide for a trip briefing before setting off through the Great Rift Valley to the Mara.
The Great Rift Valley Viewpoint: Pause at this iconic stop to admire sweeping views of the valley floor and escarpments before continuing your drive.
Maasai Mara National Reserve: Kenya’s crown jewel of wildlife parks — rolling grasslands, rich predator populations, and the Mara River, home to hippos and crocodiles. Daily game drives here offer chances to spot the Big Five and more.
Mara River: A lifeline cutting through the reserve. Depending on the season, you might witness dramatic crossings during the Great Migration, or simply watch crocodiles and hippos basking on its banks.
Day 1: Nairobi – Maasai Mara
Pick up from the Nairobi hotel or the airport. Drive via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint into the Maasai Mara (approx. 5–6 hrs). Arrive for lunch at the lodge. Afternoon game drive in the reserve. Accommodation: Mid-range safari lodge/tented camp – Full Board
Day 2: Maasai Mara – Full Day Safari
Morning and afternoon game drives across the savannah in search of lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and giraffes. Picnic lunch in the park. Accommodation: Lodge/camp – Full Board
Day 3: Maasai Mara – Full Day Safari
Full day game drives with a visit to the Mara River (home to hippos and crocodiles). Optional visit to a Maasai village. Accommodation: Lodge/camp – Full Board
Day 4: Maasai Mara – Full Day Safari
Another day of game drives, exploring different sectors of the reserve. Optional hot-air balloon safari at dawn (extra cost). Accommodation: Lodge/camp – Full Board
Day 5: Maasai Mara – Nairobi
Early morning game drive. After breakfast, check out and drive back to Nairobi. Drop off at the hotel/airport. End of services.
